Sue Dougherty has been with Bend Veterinary Specialists since she and her husband started the practice in 2004. They moved up to Bend from the SF Bay Area to raise their 2 kids in a smaller town in the middle of the beauty that is Bend. She continues her practice as the Internal Medicine Specialist and the Medical Director at BVSEC.

Jessica A. Dahlberg

DVM, MS

Dr. Dahlberg earned her doctorate in veterinary medicine and a concurrent masters of science degree from Iowa State University in 2006. Her masters studies focused on biomechanics and osteoarthritis therapy in small and large animals. After veterinary school, Dr. Dahlberg completed a large animal internship and surgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. She practiced large animal surgery for several years in New Hampshire, Arizona, Virginia, and California.

Bryan Bottorff

Dr. Bryan Bottorff received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from Purdue University in 2008. He then completed a rotating small animal internship at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, and moved to the Pacific Northwest for a Cardiology residency at Oregon State University in 2009. Dr. Bottorff completed his residency and obtained board certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in Cardiology in 2012.

Dr Bunting graduated from the Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. He moved to moved to Bend in 2002, taking a job at the small animal emergency hospital and enjoying the outdoors of Bend. The best paths in life aren’t straight so after getting a start on a family with 2 girls, he worked in all areas of veterinary medicine from small animal day practice to mobile equine services before returning full time to the Animal Emergency Center of Bend.

Dr. Stone has been with Bend Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center since the beginning of 2018. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2015, and then went on to complete a rigorous 13-month internship in emergency and critical care medicine at Dove Lewis Emergency Hospital in Portland, Oregon.

Dr. Emily Scavuzzo received her veterinary degree from Purdue University in 2016. She also holds a B.S. in Marketing from Butler University. An Indiana native, Dr. Scavuzzo had a particular interest in emergency medicine during vet school and completed an ECC internship at DoveLewis after graduation. She has since been working relief at several specialty and emergency hospitals in the Portland area and has chosen to continue her career as a full-time emergency veterinarian at Bend Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Hospital.

Morgan Helfrich

Dr. Morgan Helfrich received her doctorate in veterinary medicine from University of Illinois in 2017. After completing her degree, she stayed on at U of I to complete an internship in small animal medicine and surgery. After finishing her internship, Dr. Helfrich moved west to join our team as a full-time emergency veterinarian. Dr. Helfrich is particularly interested in soft tissue surgery, ultrasonography, critical care, and providing compassionate veterinary care.

Dr. Lacey originally grew up in Arizona before moving to Rhode Island. She earned her undergraduate degree in biology and Spanish from Notre Dame of Maryland University, followed by an MPH in veterinary public health from the Ohio State University. She attended Cornell University for veterinary school before permanently migrating back to the West coast to complete an internship in Emergency & Critical Care Medicine at DoveLewis ER & ICU.
